“Wroclaw City of Adventure,” after its huge success at the 36th CIFFT Grand Gala in Valencia – the World Tourism Film Festival – where it was awarded as the best film in the world promoting the city, will be present in national and international media for a long time. Taking advantage of the presence in Poland of Alexander V. Kammel – founder and director of CIFFT, Public Television TVP3 invited us to the programme “Guest of the Regions”. An interesting conversation with the main guest Alexander V. Kammel, as well as with Alfred Wagner – President of the Wroclaw Tourist Organization, creator of the “Wroclaw City of Adventure” campaign, and me, director of the International FilmAT Festival in Warsaw, was conducted by journalist Jacek Zimnik.

“Wroclaw City of Adventure”

Alfred Wagner told the audience how the concept for the development of this spot was born. “In the post-pandemic period we were looking for an idea that would surprise by world standards with something. We gave up presenting beautiful photos of Wroclaw, and took advantage of the fact that Wrocław is strong with its history and various legends. And so, based on the National Museum, we stopped at discovering the fate of the extraordinary Ołbiński Treasure. The participation in the spot of the excellent actors of the younger generation Marianna Zydek and Piotr Nerlewski, as well as the great actor Daniel Olbrychski, drew viewers in so much that they began to treat the film as a prelude to a feature film on the scale of Indiana Jones….” Will this be the case? For now, the Benedictine Abbey, the Sarcophagus of Peter Włostowic, the OłbinTreasure, shrouded in mystery, superbly filmed chase action in the most popular places in Wrocław: Centennial Hall, the National Forum of Music, Dunikowski Boulevards, Wroclaw Market Square, will remain long in the memory of viewers of 170 cinemas in Warsaw, Poznań, Kraków, Katowice, Łódź, Gdańsk and Szczecin, as well as the residents of these cities, who benefited from the outdoor campaign on more than 260 carriers. Of course, the Internet space was and still is extremely important. Promotion continued this year and was extended to foreign countries. The city has prepared spots distributed with dubbing in English, German, Czech and Spanish. An additional attraction is specially created tourist routes for different audiences. It should also be added here that the campaign was reinforced by activities prepared spontaneously by other well-known people with strong ties to Wroclaw.

Alexander V.Kammel convinced the audience how necessary the promotional activities of the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals CIFFT are. The Internet is flooded with information from the world, so you need to use very clever methods to reach the viewer, and our world competition allowed us to achieve this goal. A film that participates in the CIFFT world competition benefits from multi-stage promotion, first at individual festivals and then in the global classification. All stages are heavily promoted by us, so the curiosity of social media users is growing. In the past, it used to be a selection of the single most beautiful film in the world, today the film is competing for the position of the best in the world in its category; Wroclaw was competing for the position of the best film promoting the city. We strengthened this competition to win the position of the best film in the world for international media. We have organized a jury that consists of several hundred journalists from all over the world. Now there is really something to fight for!

The participation of Daniel Olbrychski – a great Polish actor – enhanced the film.

There was an interesting question about the creation of these top films using artificial intelligence. This is an inevitable process nowadays, if AI is used wisely, it can be helpful….

Alexander V. Kammel highlighted our Polish great victories during these 36 years of CIFFT. “When we selected only one film as the best one in the world, the film ‘ Łódź city of culture’ in 2008 climbed to the top. The previous year 2023, Bielsko-Biała presented a film, that was also the best one in the city promotion category.”

I talked about how important the victories of films about Fryderyk Chopin were for Poland during the Chopin Year.

And to remember that it all started in 1989, when, during the great changes in Europe and the world, Alexander V.Kammel and his dad Rudolf Kammel decided to find a way to connect the world by promoting tourism film. And so CIFFT – the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals – was born. (CIFFT is abbreviated in French), which brought together international tourism festivals from all corners of the world. During these 36 years, CIFFT promoted many Polish films for which the CIFFT Board received numerous awards from Poland, including the highest award, “Meritorious for Tourism.”
