BGK wins three FilmAT Festival 2024 awards!

A still from the move ‘Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego supports the development of the economy and society’

Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) celebrated a great anniversary in 2024. This meritorious for the Polish economy financial institution has been supporting the development of infrastructure and strategic investments of our country for a century.

BGK informs about the areas of its activity and its glorious history through films and spots. The high quality of these productions was recognized by the international jury of the 19th FilmAT Festival, which awarded the bank as many as three prizes in the “Corporate and Institutional Films” category. It is worth recalling that the competition includes films in three thematic groups: Travel Films, Corporate and Institutional Films, and TV Documentaries and Reports.

The year 2024 marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, Polish Development Bank – the only such institution in the country. The bank’s history is inextricably intertwined with the economic history of Poland over the last century. It survived the turbulent times of World War II and the communist period, which drastically limited its activities. After 1989, with the democratic changes and Poland’s entry into the European Union, the bank played an important role in the country’s dynamic economic growth.

BGK actively supports Poland’s socio-economic development by implementing financial programmes that contribute to job creation, housing construction, infrastructure development, air quality improvement and investments in renewable energy sources. Working with business, the public sector and financial institutions, the bank responds to the current needs of the economy and promotes sustainable development.

Award-winning BGK productions

The film ‘Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego supports the development of the economy and society’ won the 2nd prize in the ‘Image Film’ category at the FilmAT Festival 2024 international competition:

In the interwar period, the president of BGK, General Roman Górecki, said:

‘The concept of profit in BGK cannot be identical with the concept of profit in any other financial institution, because BGK is not an institution that would work for profit. The bank’s profit is the general progress of Poland’s economic life.’

The bank’s former investments still serve the public – successive generations of Poles live in flats built with BGK’s support, ships from all over the world call at the port of Gdynia, and the Kasprowy Wierch railway invariably carries tourists.

Films telling the story of these key investments of the Second Republic of Poland, i.e. ‘Port in Gdynia’ and ‘POV: Magistrala Węglowa’, received the 1st prize in the National Competition of the FilmAT Festival in the category Corporate Image Film.

Socially responsible bank

Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego also undertakes social initiatives that go beyond the economy. The year 2023 has been declared the ‘Year of Accessibility’ at BGK. The Bank has taken steps to raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with special needs; these can affect everyone: employees, stakeholders and partners.

The film series ‘Enable Accessibility’ was awarded 2nd prize in the Human Resources category at FilmAT Festival 2024. The productions highlight that lack of accessibility is an issue that can affect everyone, not just people with disabilities. It is estimated that nearly a third of the world’s population is neuroatypical – BGK is committed to creating the best possible working and daily life conditions for them.

The bank recognises the needs of its employees and aims to make everyone, regardless of age, health or living situation, feel comfortable in the workplace. The ‘Enable Accessibility’ series shows that there are many solutions to participate fully in society without exclusions.

We warmly invite you to watch the award-winning films and congratulate Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego on its well-deserved distinctions. On the occasion of its centenary, we wish the bank continued success and a continued contribution to Poland’s development for another hundred years!
